From November 15th to 17th, Bangkok became the epicenter of blockchain innovation as it hosted ETHGlobal Bangkok 2024.
With over 2,500 attendees from 436 cities across 86 countries (26% of whom were new to Web3), the event was a melting pot of ideas, cultures, and technologies.
The Chiliz team was thrilled to be part of this incredible experience, engaging with the community, showcasing our projects, and, of course, giving away some of the most talked-about merch at the event.
ETHGlobal Bangkok 2024: A Buzzing Crypto Hub
ETHGlobal Bangkok wasn’t just another conference; it was a convergence of the most prominent projects in the blockchain space.
The atmosphere was electric, fueled by the simultaneous occurrence of DevCon 2024 and various side events throughout the city. Bangkok truly transformed into THE crypto hub during this period, with major brands and innovators gathering to push the boundaries of Web3 technology.
The venue itself was massive, and every corner buzzed with energy. The excellent vibe and well-organized schedule made it an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
Our reasons for being there: In-person community engagement!
At ETHGlobal Bangkok, our objectives were clear:
- Encourage developers: We aimed to inspire developers to build unique and engaging applications on our platform, emphasizing creativity and user ownership.
- Celebrate achievements: We wanted to recognize and showcase the accomplishments within the Chiliz Chain community and its growing ecosystem.
- Share knowledge: By empowering developers and builders with resources and support, we sought to help innovative projects land on Chiliz Chain.
Very humbly, our booth quickly became a hotspot. How so, you might ask? This is thanks to our exceptional swag combined with the welcoming atmosphere all around – and word of mouth!
The Chiliz booth was a hit, drawing crowds eager to grab our merchandise and chat about projects. We ran out of t-shirts within the first few hours and had to order more, which to us is a testament to the excitement surrounding Chiliz Chain.
The Merch That Made Waves
During DevCon 2024, we were voted “Best Merch,” tying with Fuel Network’s own merch. This recognition was largely due to our Team Gear Boxes, which we gave to those building projects on Chiliz Chain.
Each box contained:
- A Chiliz-branded t-shirt
- A notebook for jotting down ideas
- Chiliz flags to foster team spirit
- (more?)
Note that these boxes weren’t just freebies; they were tools to encourage teamwork and collaboration. Developers reported that the merch sparked conversations and connections with other teams, embodying our commitment to in-person community engagement. Nice!
To further support the developer community, we had ChiliZZZ packages for those dedicated developers who often sleep on-site during hackathons.
These included:
- A Chiliz-branded blanket
- An inflatable mattress
- (more?)
These ChiliZZZ packages provided comfort for those burning the midnight oil and became great conversation starters!
Hackathon Highlights
One of the core attractions of ETHGlobal Bangkok was the hackathon, where developers competed to build innovative projects within a tight timeframe.
Around 28 project submissions were deployed on Chiliz Chain during the hackathon, which is a slight dip compared to ETHGlobal London 2024, but the quality was nevertheless exceptional.
It should be noted that participants didn’t have to focus solely on sports-related projects; we encouraged them to prioritize fun and user engagement. The diversity of ideas was impressive, with prediction market dApps emerging as a popular theme.
Our own Chiliz developers and community managers were actively engaged, providing support and answering questions. Hackers frequently visited our booth to get feedback and share their progress. It was great to see their dedication!
Hackathon Winners
Here the winning projects among those deployed on Chiliz Chain that day:
- Best Fan Utility Projects ($4,500 Prize):
- Best SportFi Utility Projects ($4,500 Prize):
- Blocks and Balls, a Web3 two-player card game where you compete against an AI opponent with seamless on-chain gameplay.
- Harmonia Protocol, a Uniswap V4 pool that makes tokens sustainable by dynamic fee depending on the type of community members.
- Best Runner Up ($1,000 Prize):
- Kreator, a service for distributing rewards and connecting sponsorships for K-pop fan creations.
These projects stood out for their creativity and alignment with our focus on fun and user ownership. This is the kind of spirit that we aim to foster within the Chiliz ecosystem.
We’re very proud of all the developers who participated at the event, especially those who built on Chiliz Chain of course.
Our Overall Sentiment: Let’s do it again!
Certainly, ETHGlobal Bangkok felt like more than a regular event to the Chiliz team members that went there.
One thing that stood out is the friendliness and openness of everyone at the event. From fellow companies to individual developers, the willingness to share and learn was inspiring. We forged new connections, discovered exciting products, and had the opportunity to better explain the meaning of Chiliz Chain, deepening our relationships within both the community and the industry.
The passion of participants was undeniable. Their drive to build bigger and better things resonated with our own mission at Chiliz. Witnessing their commitment (some even sleeping on floors, thanks to our ChiliZZZ packages) reinforced our willingness to keep supporting and nurturing this incredible community.
We also gathered valuable insights into how we can enhance our presence at future events. The experience taught us the importance of not just participating but actively contributing to the ecosystem. We’re already brimming with ideas for 2025, and are eager to return with even more engaging initiatives!
Events like ETHGlobal Bangkok aren’t just about technology, they’re about people: connecting, collaborating, and creating something remarkable together.
Here’s to the incredible experiences of 2024 and the even more exciting horizons of 2025. Thank you, Bangkok, for being a phenomenal host city, and thank you to everyone who made this event one we won’t forget anytime soon!
